On urgent request from the L.A. region we are adding another post to our blog today. Winter comes, weather is very low and gray, very often you don’t see the sky at all during a whole day. The sun rises only a little above the horizon so you clearly feel that Germany is much further north than New York…<\/p>\n
One and half week ago we spend Thanksgiving Day at our friends Karen and Martin in Cologne, which is a 3 hour car drive from Bremen, but it was worth it to spent the day together, chat – and to work on the 18 pounder turkey (!) which was fabulous!.<\/p>\n
During the dinner we have been talking about god and the world. One interesting question was, how we perceived Germany now, being here for a couple of month.<\/p>\n
There are actually a couple of points we noticed:<\/p>\n
Chic to be dumb<\/strong><\/em>

One of the first things we noticed was the self-image a lot of young women (around 20 years old) seem to have. Pushed by the media, it looks like it is not only acceptable to be and act as dumb as possible, but that it is even an ideal! Role models for young women as Veronika Feldbusch <\/a>or Naddel <\/a> (one dumber than the other) who both are ex girl friends of Dieter Bohlen <\/a>(one of the two guys making up ‘Modern Talking’<\/a>, worst ever published music in Germany): It seems as if it\u2019s o.k. to come across as dumb as possible as long as you are attracting attention. Look sexy, say something stupid, but beware of saying anything intelligent, political or even critical. That seems to turn people down.<\/p>\n
